Like Facebook, LinkedIn is a social networking platform that is focused on getting people to network and connect with each other. LinkedIn is built on the principle of the Six Degrees of Separation made popular by the research and scholarly work of social psychologist, Stanley Milgram which is about the fact that we live in a highly connected world and that to reach out to people we do not know requires us to start from the people we know who may have connections to other people, that may in turn know who we want to reach out to.
