The Big Switch: Tobi Learns to Tame Change!

Updated: 8 minutes ago

Tobi was having the weirdest week ever. On Monday, his teacher announced they were changing classrooms. On Tuesday, his best friend Chika moved to another school. And by Wednesday, his mum said they were moving to a new house in a different part of town!

Tobi didn’t like any of it. “Why can’t things just stay the same?” he groaned. Everything felt upside down, and he didn’t know what to do. But that’s when Grandpa sat him down and said, “Tobi, life is full of changes. The trick is learning how to manage them.”

“Manage them? Like how?” Tobi asked, curious now. Grandpa smiled. “Let me tell you the secret.”

First, he said, “When change happens, don’t panic—stay calm. It’s okay to feel confused or sad. But taking deep breaths and talking about how you feel helps you think clearly.” So Tobi tried it. When he felt upset about Chika leaving, he wrote him a goodbye note and talked to his mum about how he felt. It helped.

Second, Grandpa told him, “Try to understand the reason for the change.” So Tobi asked his teacher why they changed classrooms. She explained it was to make space for a new computer lab. “Ohhh!” Tobi said. “That actually sounds cool!”

Third, Grandpa said, “Always look for what’s good in the new situation.” So when Tobi got to his new house, he explored the neighbourhood and discovered a football field just five minutes away. Suddenly, the move didn’t seem so bad!

Fourth, he learned that it’s okay to ask for help. When he felt nervous about making new friends, his big sister helped him practise how to introduce himself and join in games. Soon, Tobi started making new buddies at his new school.

Finally, Grandpa said, “Remember that change helps us grow. Each time something changes, you get a little braver, a little wiser, and a little stronger.”

By the end of the week, Tobi felt like a change-taming ninja! Things were still different, but he wasn’t scared anymore. He learned that even though we can’t stop change, we can choose how we respond to it—with courage, curiosity, and a positive attitude.

So, the next time something in your life changes—maybe a new class, a new teacher, or even a new rule at home—don’t worry. Be like Tobi. Stay calm, ask questions, look for the good, and ask for help when you need it. Change isn’t the enemy—it’s an adventure!
